Solid Snake Voice Actor Ignites Speculation About Metal Gear Solid 4 Remaster

The voice of the iconic Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series surprised fans on X (formerly Twitter) with an image next to a statue of Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4.

David Hayter, a prolific voice actor and star of the Metal Gear franchise, posted an image on the platform last week that sparked excitement and speculation among fans as he mentioned a “pretty cool meeting” he had recently while posing with the MGS4 statue. Fans were quick to jump to conclusions about what this meant, with the general assumption being that Hayter was teasing a possible remaster or port of the PS3 classic, which never made the jump from the console it originally released on.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots released in 2008 exclusively on the PS3 and was an immediate hit with fans who praised its immersive gameplay mechanics and unique storyline, which saw an aging Snake take on some of his most iconic foes for the last time. Despite its popularity, however, the game never left the PS3, unlike many of the other games in the franchise, which recently saw a re-release with the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 on modern consoles.

Hayter’s post follows a tease from the actor last month in which he promoted his upcoming Metal Gear retrospective recap series by telling fans that the current slate of releases is “only the beginning” for the franchise. His comment here also served to promote theMaster Collection, which hit consoles and PCs earlier this month and with his most recent post referencing MGS4 along with the Vol. 1 subtitle for the collection, many fans concluded that a possible port or remaster of Guns of the Patriots will come with the Master Collection’s second volume.

There is no official information at this time about a potential remaster of MGS4, though Konami renewed fan interest in the series with its remaster collections, despite their reported technical issues at launch. However, the studio is also at work on a full-blown remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, so it is unclear as of now when fans might receive any new information about a potential return of the series’ fourth game.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is available now on the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
