Mass Effect Writer’s New Studio Teases AAA Action-Adventure Game Debut

After his recent exodus from RPG giant BioWare, Mass Effect writer Mac Walters has finally shed some light on his new studio’s first major project — reportedly a near-future action-adventure title.

Walters founded the new studio, called Worlds Untold, after resigning from BioWare earlier this year following his work as a production director on the upcoming Dragon Age game,Dreadwolf. After revealing his new studio, Walters has remained tight-lipped about Worlds Untold’s debut project, simply stating that the title has begun development and is set to be an action-adventure game set in a mysterious world ripe with in-depth locations to explore. “We’re creating incredible and meaningful stories that we believe are best told and experienced through play,” Walters said per IGN. “We are starting by crafting worlds that we all dream of discovering and then will put the player in the leading role of the most unforgettable adventures.”

The developers at Worlds Untold have yet to reveal any concrete information about the title aside from remarks about its genre, so there is no public information about the game’s plot, specific setting or gameplay as of this writing. However, Walters’ previous works have largely consisted of massive, narrative-driven RPGs such as Dragon Age, leading many fans to speculate on a similar experience for the company’s debut title.

NetEase, Worlds Untold’s parent company, has also spoken about the studio’s debut, affirming its dedication to creating brand-new IPs and even hinting at potential multimedia franchises from a variety of creative minds, many of whom previously worked on some high-profile releases. Among the ranks at Worlds Untold are industry veterans hailing from iconic series such as Metal Gear Solid, Assassin’s Creed, Halo and The Sims.

While the studio has yet to reveal what these new IPs may look like, Walters and NetEase have seemingly confirmed plans to break out of traditional gaming mediums. With NetEase reportedly providing ample resources to create these multimedia franchises, the potential seems high for Worlds Untold to deliver on its promise to bring something new to the industry.

In the meantime, BioWare fans have Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to look forward to in 2024. An official release date does not currently exist, but the title is currently set to launch sometime after April 2024.
