Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link Announces Closed Beta With Gameplay Trailer

Square Enix unveiled beta details and gameplay footage of its upcoming mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.

The promotional video was posted by the official Square Enix YouTube account and featured a minute-and-a-half of in-game footage of the Kingdom Hearts spinoff. This included a close look into the game’s full 3D graphics and fast-paced action, which set the title apart from previous mobile Kingdom Hearts video games. Several clips additionally showcased the city of Scala ad Caelum, the seat of power of the Keyblade wielders and a central location to Missing-Link‘s overarching narrative.

The video additionally announced Square Enix’s upcoming closed beta test for Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. The application period for the test opens on Oct. 30 and will run until Nov. 19. The closed beta will begin on Nov. 29 and close its doors on Dec. 8 for iOS users. At the time of writing, Square Enix has yet to announce a specific date for Missing-Link‘s closed beta on Android, with the developer only providing a January 2024 window. Accepted applicants will additionally have to agree to the closed beta’s terms of service, which state that the user cannot reveal “any information concerning the specifications, technology or defects of the game which may be obtained through the test.”

While many longtime Kingdom Hearts fans are likely eager to apply for Missing-Link‘s closed beta, Square Enix also posted a list of criteria for interested applicants. Most notably, only users from the United Kingdom and Australia will be eligible to apply. Missing-Link will additionally require a device running on or above an iOS 15 or Android 10. Square Enix further confirmed progression from the closed beta will not carry over when the game fully launches and that the beta version will not allow players to transfer devices during its run.

It remains to be seen how Missing-Link will tie into Kingdom Hearts’ generations-spanning storyline, though its focus on Scala ad Caelum and the Keyblade wielders has led some fans to believe the series will set the backdrop for the highly anticipated next mainline entry into the franchise, Kingdom Hearts IV. Director Tetsuya Nomura previously claimed the upcoming title will feel distinct from previous iterations but will unequivocally remain a Kingdom Hearts game. “It might feel slightly different from previous Kingdom Hearts titles, but once players have had a chance to play the game, I’m sure they’ll be relieved to find that it is definitely a Kingdom Hearts title,” Nomura said.
