Remedy’s Creative Director Sam Lake

Sam Lake is the creative director of the Finnish video game company Remedy. He worked on games such as the Max Payne series and 2019’s critically acclaimed Control, which was seen as a cornerstone of the “New Weird” genre. Along with that, he was the visual basis for the titular hero in Max Payne during the early days of the series.

The idea of an epic dark fantasy game is a well-tread idea within the industry, and it has significant potential in the hands of Lake and the rest of Remedy Games. As shown in the Alan Wake games, Remedy is fully capable of creating dark, supernatural stories set in the wilderness. Max Payne was also a good example of a story about an anti-hero in a foreboding city.

How Moving To Survival Horror Can Help Alan Wake 2 Surpass the Original

Control also demonstrated how Remedy can put its own spin on speculative fiction and exceed viewers’ expectations. During the interview, Lake revealed he has been a fan of the fantasy genre since his childhood, where he played tabletop games and read fantasy sagas. With all of this experience under their belt, a gothic fantasy told from Remedy could breathe new life into the genre.

Alan Wake 2 is available for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
