Gameloft Changes Mind, Drops Disney Dreamlight Valley From Free-to-Play

Life-sim adventure game featuring Disney and Pixar characters Disney Dreamlight Valley will soon be leaving Early Access and, contrary to previous claims of becoming free-to-play, will remain a paid game.

According to Gematsu, the life-simulator will officially be released on Dec. 5, alongside its first expansion called A Rift in Time. However, the game will launch as a paid title, dropping the initial plans to transition to a free-to-play model after launch. Developer Gameloft explained that the decision is being made in order to keep high-quality content being delivered throughout the game’s run. “As we look ahead to the official launch, with the learnings we’ve gained from Early Access, we’ve made the decision to remain a paid game for the foreseeable future,” stated the developer on the game’s official website.

Disney Dreamlight Valley was originally released as a paid early-access title on Sept. 6, 2022. Gameloft confirmed that current players will keep access to the game, their save data and in-game currency as they transition into the full release. Early Access players will also receive the Flowery Summer cottage house style, the Artist’s Overalls costumes and the Flowery Capybara animal companion as bonuses by claiming the Founder’s Pack before Dec. 4.

New Disney Dreamlight Valley Game Editions Coming Soon

Price adjustments and new versions of the Disney life-sim game will come for players who haven’t bought it yet. The digital version of the base game will go for US$39.99, and a new retail-exclusive Cozy Edition physical release will be available globally for $49.99 starting Nov. 10. This special edition will include bonus content such as a cottage house skin, a Cheshire cat sweater and five raccoon companion skins.

A new digital Gold Edition for $69.99 was also announced, which will include the first expansion as well as all the bonuses from the Founder’s Pack. All the editions will present free in-game currency as a complimentary gift. The game’s A Rift in Time expansion will require the base game and will be available for $29.99. More information on the new content coming with the expansion pass will be revealed during a showcase on Nov. 1.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is currently available in Early Access on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC. The full release will be available from all storefronts on Dec. 5, 2023.
