Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Reveals Island Resort Game for Animal Crossing Lovers

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has revealed that the game will feature Dokondo Island, a resort manager heavily resembling the Animal Crossing series.

During a recent interview from Xbox Wire with the director of Like a Dragon: Inflite Wealth, Hiroyuki Sakamoto explained various features coming to the game. This comes after the Xbox Partner Preview, where SEGA and RGG Studios released a new gameplay trailer for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth showcasing new gameplay. The trailer showcases the feature Dokondo Island, an optional mini-game where players manage the titular island resort in a gameplay style very similar to that of Nintendo’s social simulator Animal Crossing.

What to Expect on Dondoko Island

The Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth trailer for Dondoko Island revealed many of the features that will be available. It suggests that Dondoko Island will be highly reminiscent of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series not just in terms of gameplay but also tone. This will include resource gathering, building planning and decoration, befriending locals and taking part in various mini-games such as fishing and bug collecting.

During the interview, Sakamoto explained how Dondoko Island would be completely separate from the main game and that players could take part in it at their own pace. It will become available during a side mission in Chapter 6.

Dondoko Island Is in Line With the Style of the Like a Dragon Series

Despite the series being a crime drama first and foremost, Like a Dragon has a reputation for being surprisingly light-hearted and even zany at times. The series is no stranger to having an eclectic taste for mini-games. These have included go-karting, fighting games, karaoke and many others. As such, having an Animal Crossing-style resort manager is hardly out of character for the series.

The Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza) is an RPG franchise published by SEGA and developed by RGG Studios. The latest game in the series, Infinite Wealth, is set to follow hero Ichiban Kasuga on his journey to Hawaii to find his long-lost mother. With the addition of Dondoko island, the game’s latest entry continues Like a Dragon’s emphasis on life simulation and getting lost in mini-games.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released on Jan. 26, 2024 for the Xbox, PlayStation and Windows.
