Square Enix has dropped two new teaser images for the upcoming mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.
The teases came from X (formerly Twitter), where an official post highlighted a new piece of art for Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. The X handle for the game also features a new profile image showcasing the Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link logo with the background of Scala ad Caelum, which will be the setting for the mobile title. Square Enix hasn’t yet provided much information on the mobile game outside of it coming to Android and iOS devices, although a playtest was conducted in January according to create director Tetsuya Nomura. Fans are now hoping that these images may mean an upcoming release date will be announced, potentially even for this year.
The Mysteries of Future Kingdom Hearts Game Titles
Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was announced last year at the series’ 20th anniversary celebration. The setting of Scala ad Caelum debuted in Kingdom Hearts 3 and has a key role in the universe. It was originally called Daybreak Town — a vibrant place full of cable cars and the original home of Xehanort. However, dark events transpired, and the city was eventually warped into Scala ad Caelum, which featured in many Kingdom Hearts games, both console and mobile. It is here that Sora finally beats Xehanort, but not before the villain kills Kairi.
It’s unknown how the events of Missing-Link will play into future Kingdom Hearts titles. However, all the mobile games have played a factor in Kingdom Hearts lore in the past, and most believe it will play into Kingdom Hearts 4 in some capacity. The next console entry will focus on the events after Kingdom Hearts 3 and Kingdom Hearts III RE: Mind. In the aftermath story, Sora attempts to save Kairi by collecting her heart fragments. After using the Power of Awakening, he finds himself in the “Final World” before eventually ending up in the Quadratum.
The Quadratum is where fans saw Sora when he appeared in the first teaser trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4. This world is vastly different from anything seen in the previous games because it’s based on the real world, which is why Sora looks different in terms of his face, hair and outfit. While there, he meets Strelitzia, a Keyblade wielder from another time who also happens to be in this world. From that initial trailer, gamers also saw the return of the Heartless as they attack Quadratum, along with the familiar visages of Organization XIII. The trailer also showed Donald and Goofy on a mission to save Sora by visiting the underworld.
Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link and Kingdom Hearts 4 do not currently have release dates.
