League of Legends Unveils New Virtual Boy Band

Riot Games has created a new digital band for League of Legends known as Heartsteel.

The news was announced on X that the massively popular multiplayer online battle arena video game will have yet another band added to the world of Runeterra. Heartsteel will be a virtual boy band composed of several champions from within the game. This announcement comes during the approach to the 2023 World Championship, where the band is set to debut. The first song from this group, “Paranoia,” will drop on Oct. 23 on all music platforms.

What to Expect From League of Legends’ Heartsteel

While Riot’s previous virtual band in League of Legends, K/DA, was an homage to K-pop girl groups, Heartsteel appears to be an homage to the boy band craze. The band itself is named after a powerful in-game item, and the champions forming this band are Ezreal, Kayn, Aphelios, Sett, K’Sante and Yone.

The amount of effort that Riot Games has put into finding the talent for each of the champions is impressive, emphasizing how much faith Riot has in this music project. Ezreal will be voiced by Korean artist Baekhyun, Kayn by LA rapper Cal Scruby, Sett by Taiwanese rapper Tobi Lou and K’Sante by Nigerian hip-hop artist OZI.

Riot Games’ Other Musical Endeavors

Beyond Heartsteel, Riot has had many achievements when creating music for League of Legends. Its most successful creation in this field by far is the digital band K/DA. K/DA was an homage to K-pop groups popular among Riot’s fanbase, and the band has amassed nearly a billion views between multiple music videos. While not as successful, Riot Games’ other efforts include the metal band Pentakill and the hip-hop band True Damage.

Since its launch in 2009, League of Legends has gone from a simple MOBA to a massive multimedia franchise. On the Esports scene, Worlds is a sports event that rivals even the Super Bowl in terms of viewership and scale. Along with various spinoff games such as Legends of Runeterra and The Ruined King, Riot has also created the animated seriesArcane, which went on to be a milestone for adult animation.

League of Legends is Available for PC.
