Persona 3 Reload’s Story Stays True to the Original

Persona 3 Reload producer Ryota Niitsuma and director Takuya Yamaguchi assured the upcoming remake’s narrative will stay true to the original 2006 JRPG classic.

Per GamerBraves, the developers of Persona 3 Reload claimed the remake will welcome new and old players alike. “From the story perspective, there have been also some improvements made to accommodate new players as well as returning players,” Yamaguchi said. “The overall story arc, however, is true to the original P3, aside from a couple of improvements. So we’re definitely sure and confident to say that a lot of users will be able to enjoy this remake and then have a great experience as well.”

The director was additionally confident that veterans of the Persona series would have no trouble diving into the remake. Yamaguchi continued, “The base system has not really changed as compared to the previous Persona series, so fans returning to the series won’t struggle adjusting or playing Persona 3 Reload. There has been, however, a lot of focus and attention given to UI and usability for Persona 3 Reload. As compared to previous titles, the onboarding process should be a lot smoother for newcomers. In addition to that, they’re fine-tuning it with a lot of focus from the ATLUS team to really make sure that everybody will be able to use and enjoy it with leisure.”

What to Expect From the Persona 3 Remake?

Persona 3 Reload is the upcoming remake of Persona 3, which was released back in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. It was a landmark title for the Persona franchise and was most notably the entry that introduced social links and life simulator mechanics into the series, which has remained an iconic gameplay element in subsequent titles and a staple to the series formula. As one of the most popular entries into the series, Persona 3 also notably spawned several spinoffs and tie-ins, such as Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight and Persona 3 FES.

Fans hoping to see some of the additional content for the base game might be disappointed, given the developers behind Persona 3 Reload previously stated the remake will only modernize the original Persona 3. Producer Niitsuma claimed this was because they wanted to focus their efforts on crafting a worthy reimagining of the original Persona 3, with Niitsuma further claiming there are no plans to export features from spinoffs, such as the female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable or the epilogue arc from Persona 3 FES, into Persona 3 Reload.

Persona 3 Reload releases Feb. 2 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
