Batman: Arkham Knight Adds, Then Quietly Removes, Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Suit

After eight years, Batman Arkham Knight has gotten an update via a new suit from Robert Pattinson’s take on the Dark Knight.

The “reveal” was made on Thursday when fans of the Rocksteady Studios game noted that it had been “secretly” patched with the suit from The Batman. Screenshots were soon posted online via X, with multiple accounts confirming that this was real. The addition of the newest Batsuit came as a surprise because Batman Arkham Knight hadn’t gotten an update in many years for multiple reasons. Furthermore, as other sites like IGN confirmed, the suit was only available via the Epic Games Stores despite the title being on other platforms. However, the biggest shock came when, later in the day, the suit was suddenly removed from the game.

The Batman Meets Arkham Knight

This removal led to the speculation that the suit from The Batman wasn’t meant to be there yet. Since The Batman Arkham Trilogy is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch in December, many believed that the patch had accidentally gone out early. As of this writing, Rocksteady Studios has not confirmed the reasoning behind the suit’s addition or its removal.

Despite being part of a beloved trilogy, Batman Arkham Knight is widely regarded by fans as the worst of the set. While many of its main actors carried over into the third game, including the late Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, the gameplay and plot of the title didn’t feel as tight and well-written as with Batman Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City. One known reason for the disparity between them is that longtime Batman writer for both comics and TV, Paul Dini, was not brought back for the third game. The Batmobile sections also detracted from other parts of the game, and fans could easily see the revelation of who the “Arkham Knight” was — after which the game’s plot quickly disregarded the character.

The Batman movie by Matt Reeves did well in theaters despite being released during the pandemic and was lauded for its impressive cast and visuals. While it didn’t do as well as the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy, it was successful enough to get a sequel and a spinoff series for The Penguin via Max. No release date for either has yet been set.

The Batman Arkham Trilogy will arrive on Nintendo Switch on Dec. 1st.
