Blizzard Announces The War Within, Two Other World of Warcraft Expansions

Blizzard announces the release of three new World of Warcraft expansions in its upcoming The Worldsoul Saga; The War Within, Midnight and The Last Titan will dive deeper into the lore while also laying the foundation for the next 20 years of the franchise.

This year’s BlizzCon left World of Warcraft players ecstatic when details for the 10th, 11th, and 12th expansions were announced for the MMORPG. The BlizzCon announcement involved long-term plans for the franchise, and WoW Executive Creative Director Chris Metzen described the next phase as, “the culmination of the first 20 years of our storytelling.” He further elaborated that the expansion would “vector us into the next 20 years of adventure.” World of Warcraft: The War Within will jumpstart the new era of WoW when it comes out in 2024.

Blizzard dropped the cinematic tease for The War Within, which saw Thrall convincing an aged Anduin to let go of the past and give in to visions and voices warning of a dark, imminent threat. The teaser ends Sargeras’ giant sword plunged into the earth and looming large on the horizon. This scene could finally address an unresolved plot point at the end of the Legion expansion, as the teaser for The War Within showed glimpses of a divided world. The War Within will take players deep into Azeroth’s underworld where familiar allies and enemies await.

What to Expect from The War Within

Blizzard teased more details on The War Within such as new areas like Hallowfall, the Ringing Deeps, Azj-kahet, and the Isle of Dorn. Players will also encounter Nerubians and the Arathi, as well as the Oathsworn, Unbound, Machine Speakers and Earthen Dwarves. Apart from raid campaigns and four leveling dungeons, the 10th expansion will also introduce new gaming features like Delves, a treasure-hunting adventure, an all-new customization scheme called Hero Talents and an account integration system called Warbands.

The World of Warcraft: Midnight and The Last Titan expansions were also announced, with the games set in “Old World” Azeroth’s Quel’thalas and Northrend, respectively. Both will explore different narratives arcs in the lore where players stop sinister forces and unravel conspiracies threatening to plunge the world into darkness. With new play features and an overarching story, The Worldsoul Saga is expected to answer many WoW questions.

World of Warcraft’s eighth expansion Dragonflight is available on Mac and PC.
