Critical Role released the official trailer for Circle of Tide & Bone, a new chapter of the gothic horror series Candela Obscura, an original actual play tabletop role-playing game premiering November 30.
Candela Obscura: Circle of Tide & Bone is a three-episode chapter that continues the fight against the otherworldly evils plaguing The Fairelands with a new circle, a new game master, and a new set of horrific threats. Critical Role’s description of the series reads, “Within the secret society Candela Obscura, individuals of varied talents work as a team—known as a circle—to investigate strange occurrences and dangerous magick, fighting back against a mysterious source of corruption and bleed.”
The new chapter finds the Circle grappling with its inner demons while confronting ancient phenomena that seep from the foundations of Newfaire. Circle of Tide & Bone is accessible to new audience members despite being a continuation of the Candela Obscura series. The Candela Obscura TTRPG is the first game designed with Darrington Press’ Illuminated Worlds System.
Aabria Iyengar (Dimension 20, Starfield) is the new gamemaster. The new circle will include Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DuckTales), Liam O’Brien (Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Starfield), Noshir Dala (Mortal Kombat 1, Spider-Man 2), Gina Darling (God of Work, Legends of the Multiverse), and Ashly Burch (Life is Strange, Attack on Titan). Taliesin Jaffe and Chris Lockey created the series, with Steve Failows as director, as well as co-producer alongside Maxwell James. Rowan Hawke and Spencer Starke served as lead designers and writers.
Critical Role Will Release Candela Obscura Core Rulebook
The Candela Obscura Core Rulebook, on which the Candela Obscura series is based, will be released worldwide on November 14. A standard hardcover edition and a hardcover limited edition will be available for collectors and fans. According to Darrington Press, “the Candela Obscure Core Rulebook includes everything you need to start a thrilling and terrifying game session, including rules, playable character options, sample campaigns, and expansive setting information inside and beyond the city of Newfaire.”
