Hades Is Coming to Netflix

Hades, the roguelike dungeon-crawler set in the Greek depiction of Hell, is joining the ever-growing gaming library of Netflix.

Per the streaming giant itself, the 2020 video game Hades will be released exclusively to iOS devices. Netflix subscribers of any tier will have access to the role-playing dungeon crawler starring Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he battles his way out of the Underworld. Fans and critics alike were blown away by the game’s dynamic gameplay and storytelling, offering players a completely unique experience based on their performance.

Hades is just one of the many new games that will soon be available on the Netflix gaming service. Money Heist, Shadow and Bone: Enter the Fold, The Dragon Prince: Xadiand and Chicken Run: Eggstraction — four upcoming video games based on original Netflix programming — will be released exclusively through the streaming service. Additionally, Braid, Anniversary Edition, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, Death’s Door and Katana Zero will soon be available to play for Netflix subscribers.

In the meantime, Netflix members can enjoy the recently released retro horror Slayaway Camp 2: Netflix & Kill or immerse themselves with the roguelike-Metroidvania game Dead Cells. These games and more make up Netflix’s digital gaming library of over 80 titles, two years after the announcement of Netflix Games. Netflix is also funding a video game adaptation of Rebel Moon, the epic space opera by DCEU director Zack Snyder, set for a limited theatrical release on Dec. 15 before making its streaming premiere on Dec. 22.

Following its early-access development, Hades by Supergiant Games (Bastion, Transistor, Pyre) was released on Sept. 17, 2020, for Nintendo Switch and PC, with PlayStation and Xbox versions being available on Aug. 13, 2021. Reviews heavily praised the game for its procedural approach toward its isometric action and branching storylines involving the Greek gods. The mythological figures were complex, compelling and visually appealing, all while offering an enchanting romance accessible through the player’s bisexual hero.

Since the release of Hades, the fandom has shown its appreciation for the hell-rasing roguelike by creating amazing cosplays of its cast, illustrating breathtaking fan art and performing record-breaking speedruns online. The upcoming Hades II will tell the story of Melinoë, Princess of the Underworld and Zagreus’ sister. It will also follow the early-access development of its predecessor set for 2024.
