Horror Comedy Game Slayaway Camp Releases Netflix-Exclusive Sequel

The 2016 horror comedy game Slayaway Camp has received a sequel titled Slayaway Camp II: Netflix & Kill exclusive to those with a Netflix subscription.

Netflix recently dropped the trailer on YouTube for the sequel game for iOS and Android. It has been seven years since the previous game was released to critical acclaim. Notably, the game is a Netflix Exclusive one, meaning it is available only to those subscribed to Netflix. However, people who download the game will not have to pay additional fees or view any advertisements while playing.

What Is Slayaway Camp?

The Slayaway Camp series is a franchise of horror games developed by Blue Wizard Digital. Despite technically fitting into the horror genre, the series has a cartoonish aesthetic and is intentionally over-the-top in its depictions of violence. The game follows Skullface, a serial killer trapped in a catalog of campy ’80s horror films. Additionally, the player can choose various cosmetics for Skullface, paying homage to numerous established horror tropes.

Slayaway Camp was first released on Steam before seeing releases on consoles. The game received praise for its black comedy and innovative gameplay, with Slayaway Camp even collaborating with the iconic Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle. However, the game was redacted in January due to the contract expiring.

Netflix May be Moving to be a Major Gaming Streaming Service

Last year, Netflix began expanding its vast resources into the gaming industry. After the media giant lost its monopoly on streaming with the advent of the streaming wars, the company looked to other ways to expand its reach. One of these was by branching out into Netflix Games. While it started with games based on its own IPs such as Stranger Things, the company has also gone on to include various indie titles such as Oxenfree.

The fact that Slayaway Camp 2 is a Netflix Exclusive game shows that the company is experimenting with the idea of games in the same way as streaming-exclusive shows. The release of Slayaway Camp 2: Netflix and Kill may indicate that Netflix is taking steps toward becoming a bigger player in the gaming world.

Slayaway Camp II: Netflix & Kill is now available for iOS and Android.
