2024 is already looking bright for Magic: The Gathering fans, with Wizards of the Coast revealing its lineup of immersive experiences at next year’s MagicCon in Chicago, Amsterdam and Las Vegas.
Hot on the heels of September’s MagicCon in Las Vegas, WotC has announced its three MagicCons scheduled for 2024, with an early tease of the events in store for Magic: The Gathering fans. MagicCon Chicago kicks off the year in February with a Pro Tour event featuring the upcoming Murders at Karlov Manor set, MtG‘s foray into the murder-mystery whodunit genre. The “Secret Lair” Showdown also returns with four qualifier events, pitting the top eight players from each qualifier round in a showdown championship with prize cards Spell Pierce, Murktide Regent and Dark Ritual up for grabs.
MagicCon Chicago will also host the 75K Standard Open — a massive tournament where players compete for a $75,000 prize pool and eight automatic slots in the second Pro Tour of 2024. Separate qualifier rounds will be held for players who want to earn their slot in 2024’s second Pro Tour event. Next year’s Standard Open will build on the momentum of last September’s Limited Open in Las Vegas, where 2,000 players competed for a $100,000 prize pool and first Pro Tour 2024 invites. The Las Vegas Limited Open used Wilds of Eldraine-themed decks in its match gauntlets, which awarded a whopping $20,000 prize to the first-place winner.
MagicCon Chicago Highlight Events
All attractions will convene at MagicCon Chicago’s main stage, featuring cosplay contests, the Pro Tour Sunday watch party, a Fallout preview panel and a Murders at Karlov Manor interactive panel on art and world-building with MtG Head Designer Mark Rosewater. Wizards of the Coast also teases Magic: The Gathering fans with special guests, featured artists and more secret treats, all to be revealed in the weeks leading up to the event. 2024’s first MagicCon visits the Windy City of Chicago from Feb. 23-25.
Magic: The Gathering will then bring MagicCon to Amsterdam from June 28-30, promising a weekend of artist appearances, panels, immersive experiences and tournaments. Its Pro Tour event will also feature Modern Horizons III, a format-breaking set expected to introduce some of the game’s most powerful cards. Wizards of the Coast will wrap up 2024 with MagicCon Las Vegas from Oct. 26-28 with the 30th Magic World Competition and a reveal of MtG’s plans for 2025.
Tickets and badge packages for 2024’s MagicCon Chicago go on sale starting Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. PT.
