Mortal Kombat 1 creator Ed Boon released a poll on X for fans and revealed that the most requested feature is cross-play between consoles.
Boon posted a poll on X (formerly Twitter) about what the most requested feature for NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 was. Overwhelmingly, fans said their most requested feature was cross-play between different consoles. The poll received over 57,000 votes, with cross-play topping the charts at 75%, highlighting the fanbase’s desire for this feature. The other options Boon presented were a Wi-Fi filter, a ping filter, and a ranked play switch to 2/3. Above the poll, Boon also confirmed that NetherRealm Studios was “working on additional online features for MK1.” He was unable to provide any dates or specifics, unfortunately. The Status of Mortal Kombat 1 and Cross-Play
As NetherRealm Studios stated earlier, Mortal Kombat 1 would not have cross-play at launch. In the same tweet, the studio also promised that cross-play would come in the future. This adds credence to the idea that the online update Boon mentioned was a cross-play feature.
Cross-play is seen as a vital component of any multiplayer game as it allows players from various consoles to connect and battle. Until then, many segments of Mortal Kombat 1’s player base will be divided. Despite both of these tweets confirming that there were new online features in development, there were no dates provided. As such, it could be weeks or months before cross-play is added to the game.
Currently, NetherRealm Studios has many large plans for Mortal Kombat 1. An example of this is the studio’s plans to reboot the timeline for the series to start fresh. Yet another example is the Kombat Pack to be released. This will include many returning champions as well as iconic guest fighters including Peacemaker, the Homelander, and Omni-Man.
Mortal Kombat 1 is available for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
