Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Is Available Now on iPhone and Android

NetherRealm Studios has officially released Mortal Kombat: Onslaught for iPhone and Android phones.

The new title will feature turn-based RPG action as players will assemble a team of Kombatants that span the vast history of the franchise and attempt to defeat their foes through a deep story mode. One of the game’s highlights is assembling a team of five characters and building them up to unleash devastating attacks, combination strikes, and Fatalities to handle the threats that await them. With numerous options, gamers can pick all-star teams or simply select the characters they desire the most.

Mortal Kombat Goes Mobile

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught features an all-new story created specifically for the mobile experience. In it, Shinnok has acquired a series of relics that can grant him incredible power and has brought in others like Shao Khan to use the relics to try and disrupt the balance in the world. To counter this, Raiden has assembled various groups to try and bring the relics back and stop his plans for domination. The game’s launch trailer features the high-definition graphics that resemble Mortal Kombat 1 and other previous entries in style and quality.

While the gameplay is turn-based and RPG in nature, NetherRealm Studios pushed the title to challenge gamers no matter their skill level. It will be more complex than just picking and putting characters to work. Many levels of strategy must be taken into consideration, including the class of character and how to use them against rival characters to get the victory. Players will also need to train and level up their fighters to get better and do more on the battlefield. Outside of the story mode, there will be an “Arena” mode, “Boss Towers,” and a “Chasm” mode for gamers to use to their advantage.

All of this bolsters the success of the Mortal Kombat franchise. The most recent console game, which once again reset the timeline thanks to Liu Kang getting the powers of a Titan, was hailed as a huge success that opened up many possibilities for the franchise in the future. Additionally, there are the Mortal Kombat animated movies, of which another is set to be released soon. Another live-action entry in the saga is also in production.
