New Jujutsu Kaisen Game Promises to Determine Players’ Typing Attack Efficiencies

An upcoming edutainment video game will allow Jujutsu Kaisen lovers to test their fandom — and their typing skills.

Jujutsu Kaisen Typing: Jutsuda is a new game from Japanese developer Rio Company that will be more than just a fun tie-in to the popular anime. Based on the acclaimed Jujutsu Kaisen franchise, the game tests players’ typing skills, among other abilities. Beyond a tutorial featuring Satoru Gojo, stages will look at typing precision and speed, with six battle stages used to determine a user’s “efficiencies.” The question words are in one of three categories: the corresponding romaji for 2,500 kanji words taken directly from the Japan Kanji Aptitude Test; common English words and phrases in the Japanese curriculum; and even programming terms derived from the IchigoJam Basic lessons taught in the country’s schools.

The Jujutsu Kaisen PC Game Tests Users’ Typing Abilities

To play the game, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen will need a Mac or PC that has at least either Windows 10 or macOS 10.15. Other necessities include a 6th-generation Intel Core i3, plus a physical keyboard and mouse, as touch panels are not supported. Jujutsu Kaisen Typing: Jutsuda is currently planned for physical release in Japan sometime in December 2023. The cost will be ¥5,280, or around US$35. It’s unknown when or even if it will have an international release, although these kinds of tie-ins are actually fairly common in Japan. For instance, Initial D: Ryosuke Takahashi’s Fastest Typing-theory was a similar typing game based on the popular racing manga and anime series Initial D.

Jujutsu Kaisen Typing: Jutsuda is largely intended for younger students so that they can learn how to perfect their typing skills. However, although published in Weekly Shonen Jump, the manga is widely viewed as one of the darker series associated with the shonen demographic, considered to be part of the “shonen dark trio” alongside Chainsaw Man and Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. The JJK manga began publication in 2018 and is still ongoing, with 24 tankobon volumes being collected to date. Over 80 million copies of the manga have now been published, with the franchise a current mainstay in the industry.

The anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen debuted in 2020, with the show’s second season premiering in the Summer 2023 season. Like its source material, it has also been incredibly popular and well-received. Unfortunately, the show has also become a linchpin of controversy surrounding its production studio, MAPPA, and many animators have come forward about the poor working conditions and pay rates for the series and at the studio in general. It’s currently unknown when the anime will return for its third season.
