New Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer Shows off Omni-Man’s Rage

The Viltrum Empire has come for Mortal Kombat 1 and Earthrealm.

A new gameplay trailer promoting Mortal Kombat 1‘s first guest character Omni-Man (voiced again by J.K. Simmons) showed off the Invincible supervillain’s vast array of powers, opening with Omni-Man declaring “The Realms are mine!” before trading verbal barbs with the likes of Raiden, Kenshi, and Kung Lao. From there, it demonstrates the Viltrumite’s power as he punches, smashes, and bashes his foes from the air — along with assistance from Kameo character Tremor– with attacks pulled directly from the Prime Video animated series. This includes Omni-Man’s newest Fatality, which involves running his foe through an incoming train just as he did in Invincible‘s season 1 finale.

Omni-Man’s first gameplay footage debuted last month, testing his might against franchise staples Liu Kang and Scorpion in battle. The trailer also featured a different type of Fatality, with Omni-Man killing one foe in a manner reminiscent of his Guardians of the Globe battle from Invincible‘s premiere. The villain was first announced as a DLC fighter in July, joined not only by Quan Chi, Takeda, and Ermac from the Mortal Kombat universe but DC anti-hero Peacemaker and The Boys’ antagonist Homelander. Mortal Komat 1 also features a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for longtime hero Johnny Cage — with the Bloodsport actor being a direct inspiration for Cage — voiced by Van Damme himself. According to Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, an attempt was made to bring in Keanu Reeves’ John Wick as a playable character, but it ultimately didn’t happen.

Additionally, Omni-Man won’t be the only Invincible character receiving their game debut. This year’s New York Comic Con provided a first look at Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, a visual novel RPG following the life of the titular heroine with comic book panel-inspired visual transition sequences. Alongside Eve herself, the game’s trailer also featured cameos by allies like Invincible, Rexspolde, and Dupli-Kate.

Invincible, meanwhile, will return for season 2 this month, with the season achieving a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score at the time of this article. However, only half of its eight-episode season will be available to watch in 2023. As co-showrunner Simon Racioppa explained in an interview, “We want to give the fans some episodes now and then ask them to wait just a little longer for the others. So no, it wasn’t a story-based decision but, as I’m sure you know, there are a multitude of things that can happen during production that can affect your release date. We just felt this was the best way to present season 2 and get it out to the fans.”

Mortal Kombat 1 is available to play on console and PC. Omni-Man will be available at an undisclosed date in November.
