Nintendo Brings Back the Wii Rainbow Road Course in Trailer for Final Mario Kart DLC

The final wave of DLC content for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe releases next week, and its most recent preview showcases the return of some fan-favorite content returning to the game.

Nintendo has shared the Course Overview trailer for the Wave 6 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass, which features eight new tracks along with four new characters to choose from. These circuits will join the game as part of the Acorn Cup and Spiny Cup. The official release date for this upcoming content has been confirmed as Sept. 9.

The new batch of downloadable content will include the return of classic stages such as Wii’s Rainbow Road and Daisy Circuit, Double Dash’s DK Mountain, and Rosalina’s Ice World from Mario Kart 7. Three new tracks will also arrive from Mario Kart Tour: the aquatic Piranha Plant Cove along with the life-like Rome Avanti and Madrid Drive. The latter two will include some real-life landmarks, such as the Piazza del Campidoglio and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the middle of a soccer match.

This final batch of DLC content also marks the return of fan-favorite characters, including Diddy Kong and Funky Kong. Both racers last appeared as playable characters in Mario Kart Wii and later for the mobile title Mario Kart Tour. Also from Tour, Peachette and Pauline will join the roster as mediumweight and heavyweight racers, respectively. In addition, 16 Mii Racing Suits and a new music player feature will arrive along with the DLC.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Completes Its Course

This final wave of downloadable content completes the list of 48 tracks promised when the Booster Course Pass was first announced in February 2022. Considering all the new content added as DLC, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe currently has 96 tracks in total, including reworked versions of courses from all the series’ entries on previous consoles. Three completely new tracks have also been added: Sky-High Sundae, Yoshi’s Island and Squeaky Clean Sprint. This is the last batch of new content coming to the Mario racing game announced by Nintendo. After its initial launch in 2017, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reaches its sixth year, closing with almost double the content compared to its original version, including up to 50 playable characters.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available for Nintendo Switch. The Booster Course Pass DLC can be purchased separately for US$24.99 or accessed for free as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription.
