Pokémon Reveals Official Release Date for Scarlet and Violet Indigo Disk DLC

finally has a release date for the second and final part of its DLC, The Indigo Disk.

According to posts from official Pokémon social media accounts, The Indigo Disk DLC will release on Dec. 14. This concludes the larger Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC package that began with The Teal Mask, which released in September of this year. In The Teal Mask, players ventured out of Scarlet & Violet’s Paldea region and into the Japanese-themed region of Kitakami, where they encountered new Pokémon like Ogerpon. The Indigo Disk will take players to a school called the Blueberry Academy, said in The Teal Mask to be located off the shores of the Unova region from Pokémon Black & White.

Not much is known about the story that will take place in this part of the DLC, although pre-release materials have established that the Blueberry Academy will host an Elite Four-like challenge called the BB League. Players will also visit a new open-world area called the Terarium. This new area contains four different artificial biomes that host a diverse array of Pokémon species, presumably related to the Tera Crystals that have played a role in the story of Scarlet & Violet up to this point.

Naturally, more Pokémon are set to appear in The Indigo Disk. Over 100 Pokémon from previous games will be returning in this DLC, following series developer Game Freak’s decision to cut the franchise’s backward compatibility with all existing species of Pokémon starting with the previous entries, Pokémon Sword & Shield. While a few of the starter Pokémon have appeared through in-game events so far, it’s been confirmed that every starter will return as part of The Indigo Disk, including the previously omitted Squirtle and Bulbasaur lines.

Brand-new Pokémon have been announced to appear as well. Terapagos, a new Legendary Pokémon that has been receiving heavy attention in the current season of the anime, will be introduced in The Indigo Disk and it is expected to play a major role in the story. New Paradox Pokémon inspired by Raikou and Cobalion, respectively named Raging Bolt and Iron Crown, will likewise debut. Previous trailers for the DLC have also shown a new evolution for Duraludon, a Pokémon introduced in Sword & Shield. Duraludon’s evolution is named Archaludon, a bridge-like Pokémon that will have the new move Electro Shot. Lastly, while not officially confirmed, players have noticed a gameplay quirk suggesting that one of The Teal Mask‘s new Pokémon, Dipplin, will further evolve.

Accessing the content of The Indigo Disk will require the completion of the main storyline of Scarlet & Violet as well as The Teal Mask DLC’s storyline, so players who have yet to finish either may want to get to work ahead of the DLC’s Dec. 14 release date. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, as well as The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, are available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop.
