Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Rumor Suggests New Evolution

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s The Indigo Disk may include an evolution for the Pokémon Dipplin when it releases later this year.

The first of two planned expansions, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s The Teal Mask introduced Dipplin, an evolved form of Applin. The rumor about the character’s evolution gained steam when players discovered that it could use the held item Eviolite. When held by Pokémon that had not fully evolved, Evolite could increase their Defense and Special Defense by fifty percent. Joe Merrick of Serebii.net, via his Twitter (formerly known as X) account, speculated the insertion of Dipplin’s ability to use Evolite may have been intentional. “I do wonder if the inclusion of Dipplin being able to use Eviolite was an intentional tease or an oversight. If the latter, I wonder if it will be addressed in the patch due this week. I personally doubt it. Definitely an interesting thing though,” he wrote.

Dipplin, alongside Appletun and Flapple, is one of the three evolved forms of Pokémon Applin. Pokémon Sword and Shield first featured Applin. Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet saw the evolution of Applin into either of these forms by using a compatible evolution item; a Sweet Apple turns Applin into Appletun, while a Tart Apple turns Applin into Flapple. The latter title introduced Dipplin and a third item: a Syrupy Apple.

The Indigo Disk, which may feature Dipplin’s evolution, is the second part of the Pokémon Scarlet and VioletDLC. Situated in a high-tech underwater facility, Blueberry Academy, students learn the rudiments of battle. In their downtime, players can discover and catch dozens of new Pokémon in four unique environmental biomes.
