Resident Evil Village Gets a New Trailer for iPhone Version Launch

Two years after its initial release, Resident Evil Village has a brand-new trailer for the game’s mobile version on current-gen Apple products.

Earlier this year, Apple revealed its newest models of mobile phone — the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max — along with an announcement of its partnership with Capcom to port two Resident Evil titles to the devices as a showcase of technical ability. The company announced ports of both Resident Evil Village and this year’s Resident Evil 4remake, and while the latter is still a way off, Village is available as of Oct. 30. Capcom, the game’s developer, released a launch trailer for the port on YouTube in celebration of its debut.

The trailer primarily consists of gameplay clips and footage from the game’s console trailers, though it is shown on a mobile phone screen overlay, with the mobile version’s new features and control schemes on display throughout. According to the minute-long trailer, the game supports both touchscreen controls via overlaid button prompts and use of a console controller to play, allowing for a similar experience to console gaming.

Touch controls in-game are reportedly fully customizable as well, allowing players to move the on-screen buttons anywhere they want on-screen and remap their individual functions. On top of this, Capcom and Apple have confirmed that the game can run on any iPad equipped with Apple’s new M1 chip, giving users access to the game on either device after purchasing.

Additionally, the trailer revealed that Winters’ Expansion, RE Village‘s main DLC pack, which adds a brand-new follow-up storyline and a third-person mode for the base game, is also out now and available for purchase separately. With the expansion, Village will have all the same content as its original console and PC versions. Apple and Capcom have reportedly attempted to emulate a similar performance level to console gaming with minimal concessions to the game’s graphical fidelity and resolution, though some players have reported frame rate drops and performance issues in some of the game’s bigger map sections.

Aside from Resident Evil, Apple is in talks with other developers, namely Ubisoft, to release other AAA titles on its hardware, with a port of Assassin’s Creed Mirage allegedly in the works, among other unrevealed titles. As of now, Apple has not revealed any other developers that may release games on the platform, but as its newest models of iPhones and iPads continue to evolve, AAA gaming on mobile devices does as well, and more ports are set to come in the following years.
