Silent Hill 2 Remake Dev Says Ask Konami: “Communication Is Definitely Part of Their Job”

The Silent Hill 2 remake is one of the most anticipated video games of next year, and fans are eager for new information about the upcoming survival horror title from Konami.

In a response to a post on X (formerly Twitter) from Silent Hill franchise developer studio Bloober Team, a fan asked when they might see news about Silent Hill 2, to which the studio referred them to publisher Konami. According to the studio, Konami is in charge of communication and press for the entire franchise as the series’ publisher — a fact that Bloober Team was quick to point out in a manner that seemed fairly pointed, given the lack of information released by Konami itself. This also potentially hints that even if Bloober did have information regarding Silent Hill updates, it has its hands tied when it comes to actually revealing it, while Konami may be intentionally choosing to remain quiet on the topic.

Konami, a Japanese video game developer and publisher known for iconic series like Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, announced a slew of new projects in the works for the horror franchise in a massive revival of the series, which has not seen a new entry in years. The company revealed the upcoming projects in a live stream last year, which included the Silent Hill 2 remake, along with several original entries such as Silent Hill F and Townfall, along with a rebooted film series.

However, the company’s first major release in the series in years, Silent Hill: Ascension, has left many fans weary about the state of the franchise after it launched to a disastrous fan response thanks to technical issues and reported “pay-to-win” elements. Ascension is an interactive horror series live-streamed on the game’s official website, which allows fans to influence the story by voting on major decisions that will affect the plot. The first episode aired earlier this month and drew ire from fans, who cited its poor performance and the existence of paid cosmetics and even a seasonal progression system.

Nonetheless, Silent Hill 2 has remained a hotly discussed and anticipated title within the community due to the original’s place as a staple in the survival horror genre. The PlayStation 2 original released in 2001 to widespread acclaim, telling the story of James Sunderland, a widower who travels to the cursed town of Silent Hill to search for his late wife, where he faces the town’s horrific monstrosities drawn from within his own psyche.

The Silent Hill 2 remake is currently set to release sometime in 2024, though Konami has not yet revealed an official release date.
