The Game Awards Gives Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Seven Nominations

The Game Awards are nearly here after a year stacked with massive releases, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which has received seven nominations, including one for Game of the Year.

After garnering critical acclaim and some of Sony and Insomniac’s biggest sales numbers to date, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sees similar success at The Game Awards, receiving nominations in seven different categories. Along with the prestigious Game of the Year Award, which is reserved for the year’s best and biggest title, Insomniac’s open-world sequel was also nominated for best action/adventure game, game direction, narrative, innovation in accessibility, audio design, and voice acting, specifically Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Peter Parker.

These accolades may come as little surprise to many fans due to the game’s massive success with critics and fans alike, quickly becoming one of the PS5’s fastest-selling games of all time and outshining its two preceding titles in terms of scale. Compared to the first game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has a much larger map, adding Queens and Brooklyn to the already bustling Manhattan districts from the first game, along with a slew of new gameplay features for both travel and combat.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 tells its story through two protagonists, Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales, as they work together to fend off all-new threats in a newly-expanded New York City. Throughout its events, players meet Insomniac’s new take on Venom and fight classic villains such as Kraven the Hunter, the Lizard and Sandman.

The game still faces some steep competition as it goes up against the likes of fan-favorite RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, which was voted the best PC game of 2023 by Metacritic and several other massive releases from AAA studios like Capcom. Other nominations have come through for Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, all vying for the title of Game of the Year.

Fans can vote for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and various other 2023 releases at the Game Awards’ official website after signing up for an account. Voting is now open for all categories until Dec. 7.
