A number of classic games previously referenced in Smash Bros. have been announced as part of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription for new players to experience.
Nintendo recently revealed the new batch of games coming to the Game Boy and NES libraries of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, all of which share a spooky theme. The games being added are Castlevania Legends, Devil World and The Mysterious Murasame Castle, with the latter two in particular recognizable for having appeared as assist trophies in Smash Bros.
Castlevania Legends Is a Return to the Series’ Roots
Originally released in 1998, the same year as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, this title goes back to the side-scrolling style prominent in the first few entries of the series. This time the Belmont family representative is Sonia, a young vampire hunter on a quest to stop Dracula’s monstrous reign using her grandfather’s magi whip. This marks the fourth installment released for the Game Boy systems introducing mechanics such as the soul weapons and the Burning Mode, which grants temporary invincibility.
Devil World Messes Up the Player’s POV
This is the first time American players will officially be able to play this classic NES title. In Devil World, players take the role of the dragon Tamagon as he faces numerous threats inside a Pac-Man-like maze. The main caveat is a devil at the top of the screen choosing which direction to move the stage toward, making the whole screen an enemy in itself. The devil appears in Smash Bros. Ultimate as an assist trophy that also moves the camera sideways, making it easier for characters to fall out of stage.
The Mysterious Murasame Castle Presents a Classic Samurai Quest
In The Mysterious Murasame Castle, players need to help a brave samurai called Takamaru after being sent to investigate the strange happenings inside Murasame Castle after dark forces have taken hold of it. Takamaru must use his swordsman skills and shuriken attacks to defeat hordes of ninjas and monsters as he delves further into the castle to end the source of the evil power. Takamaru also joined the Smash Bros. assist trophies showcasing his sword and shuriken attacks against enemy players.
Castlevania Legends, Devil World and The Mysterious Murasame Castle are already available for Nintendo Switch Online members both as part of the regular subscription and the Expansion Pack service.
