Worlds Beyond Number Releases Brennan Lee Mulligan’s Homebrewed Dungeons & Dragons Witch Class

TTRPG podcast Worlds Beyond Number touched base with fans between the first and second arc of their epic The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One with a Fireside Chat that provided insight into Brennan Lee Mulligan’s homebrewed Witch class.

Dimension 20stalwart Mulligan serves as Game Master on The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One, a fantasy saga featuring the talents of Aabria Iyengar, Erika Ishii and Lou Wilson. Ishii portrays the rising Witch of Toma, Ame, with a homebrewed magic class that emphasizes “crafting and consequences” and a Witch’s role in the greater community. Influences for the class, and the world of Umora at large, include Hayao Miyazaki, and The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One’s animated trailer likewise highlighted the director’s inspiration. In addition to Mulligan and Ishii, the Witch class was brought to life by designers Mazey Veselak, Brandes Stoddard and Hannah Rose.

Mulligan and Ishii discussed the class in further detail during Worlds Beyond Number‘s recent Fireside Chat, released from behind the Patreon paywall. The two reflected on Ame’s journey in Arc 1 and how her responsibility to both the world of spirits and the world of mortals as a Witch influenced her narrative. Ishii emphasized the importance of agency, and Mulligan certainly played into that notion, setting Ame up with one of the most influential decisions of Arc 1 during the party’s climatic visit to Port Talon.

After the Fireside Chat, Worlds Beyond Number teased a further look at Ame’s Witch class on social media. The class is now available for fans to playtest, with the full details available on Worlds Beyond Number‘s Patreon. Worlds Beyond Number will return for Arc 2 of The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One next month. In the meantime, the podcast has been whetting fans’ appetites with behind-the-paywall content such as the Fireside Chat and the Ishii-run farm heist A County Affair.

The Worlds Beyond Number team continues their sprawling TTRPG influence in Dimension 20‘s current Burrow’s End campaign, which places Iyengar behind the GM screen and features Ishii and Mulligan as stupendous stoats. Iyengar recently shocked Mulligan, Ishii and the rest of the Burrow’s End cast with one of Dimension 20’s most horrifying and elaborate battle maps to date. In addition to Dimension 20, all four Worlds Beyond Number contributors have spent time in the world of Critical Role, with both Mulligan and Iyengar serving as Exandria Unlimited GMs.

Worlds Beyond Number can be found on Spotify or any equivalent podcatcher, with bonus episodes and full details on the Witch subclass available to Patreon subscribers.
